Magickal Records, May Pagan Basics Kit

A Grimoire or Book of Shadows is essentially a record of your upward spiral. The term grimoire originated from the Old French word grammaire, which had initially been used to refer to all books written in Latin. By the 18th century, the term had gained its now common usage in France, and had begun to be used to refer purely to books of magic {Wikipedia} Over time, these ancient grimoires have evolved into an eclectic mix of spells, experiences, and techniques.

A Book of Shadows is a book containing religious texts and instructions for magical rituals found within the Neopagan religion of Wicca. These two titles are essential the same thing but the actual content will vary widely based on the practitioners path. Whatever the preference of the practitioner, the written book is a living record of spirit and all its manifestations.

Rightfully, these books do not have a strict guideline. They are whatever you intend them to be. They will hold as much power as you put into them and that will stay with you so long as you protect it.

For this kit, I felt the most important part of creating your personal grimoire or book of shadows was not the actual content of said books but the energic exchange and bond you have with your magickal records. You can spend hours scrapbooking a single page and never perform the ritual or print out a ritual in 10 seconds and spend years repeating it. Where you spend your energy is where your power rests.

Touch, scent and vibration are powerful activators of our personal magick. When you open your book, you want to feel a rush of energy coming out of it. You want to smell its familiar smell, feel its comfort through touch and vibration.

Personal magick such as this must be protected. Boundaries must be defined. Nothing is as important than keeping your magickal records guarded. Many give these things away freely, and that is perfectly fine. This is their path, to share, they are experiencing the magick of exchange. Some keep them very private, that is equally as perfect. Keeping magickal records is not an automatic opportunity for exposure, its opportunity for stability, growth and strength regardless of what you do with it.

With that said. I have 3 rituals for you, they will serve you well regardless of your path.

Creating your signature synergy

The Herbal Spell Charm is a base blend of herbals for creating the scent and touch of your book. This base blend is an enhancer-protector mixture that can be used to tea stain your pages, blend into handmade papers or burn as incense to consecrate record keeping rituals. I call this a base blend because I want you to add something to it. Employ at least one other magickal herb to create a signature synergy blend for your book.

Use the Magickal Records Anointing Oil to bless and protect each page as you go. At the start of each blank page, rub a tiny drop anywhere on the page. Speak a short spell that protects you from negative influence and invokes self-love so you can write freely with acceptance of self and without self doubt or other harmful emotions. This is also a base blend. I cannot express how important it is to have a signature scent for your books, one you use nowhere else but for your records.

I have given you black and white silk with a Celtic knot charm for use in either knot magick or book binding. Silk is used as a form of protection and has been used in the occult arts providing psychic shields and deflecting negative energy thus providing a sense of invincibility. White silk represents the transformational path of connecting to spirit, otherwise known as enlightenment. Black silk represents the transformational path of understanding spirit. Together they represent balance and union of connecting to and understanding ones self.

Protecting your records

Knot magick is one of the oldest and simplest forms of sympathetic magick. Its use dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, and it went on to spread through Greece, Rome, and on into the rest of Europe. Knot magick is a type of sympathetic magick because the knot represents binding. Essentially, you tie the knots as you cast your spell, and this action binds the power of the spell into the thread or cord you are using, making the spell more powerful and longer lasting.

Tie the white silk to the jump ring on one side of the celtic knot talisman and the back silk to the other side. Include other colored ribbons, knots or talismans as you see fit. When you are prepared to close and store your magickal records, perform a closing ritual by performing knot magick to seal in and protect your magick. Wrap the records with this protection charm and give it one good knot. When you are ready to open and release your records, you can simply untie the knot.

It is suggested to cast a strong circle whenever working with your personal records.
